La Palette website 2016: UI/UX Design for a Long-Established Florist Redefining “Dialogue” Rooted in the Hiroo Community Digitally
Hiroo, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. A place where sophisticated culture and a peaceful residential area coexist is home to “La Palette,” a florist that has been dearly loved for many years. As symbolized by the colorful flowers filling the storefront and the friendly personality of the staff, the essence of the shop lies not in the mere provision of products, but in “craftsmanship through communication” that connects the feelings of the giver and the recipient. The mission of the web design in this project was synthesized into determining how to seamlessly express on the web both the sense of high quality unique to the Hiroo location and the shop’s distinct positioning of being “reasonable and approachable.” Based on a logical design philosophy, we materialized a UI/UX design where users gain a sense of security and reassurance, feeling as if they are consulting a “dandy gentleman” right at the storefront, even through a digital device.Information Design That Preserves the “Warmth” of the Physical Store and a Visual Strategy Visualizing Trust
The choice that sparked the most discussion during this renewal was the intentional decision not to adopt a “fully automated EC site (shopping cart format).” The value of La Palette, highly regarded as the most reasonable and high-quality florist in Hiroo, is tied to the staff’s counseling capabilities—finely absorbing budgets, purposes, and the “recipient’s preferences.” To maximize this analog strength, we established the following three approaches as the pillars of the design:- Building a Category-Specific Gallery to Trigger “Consultations”: We published archive photos of actual creations across major categories like arrangements, stand flowers, and bouquets. This functions not as a mere portfolio introduction, but as a UI design that allows users to select their “vague ideas” as concrete visual information. By setting the gallery as the entry point, users can proceed to the next step with concrete desires, such as “with an atmosphere like this.”
- Adopting an “Email Order” System That Requires Dialogue: We intentionally avoided a standard payment flow and adopted email ordering via form input. While this may seem counter-intuitive to efficiency at first glance, it is a strategic UX choice to protect the client’s philosophy of cherishing the “feeling of giving.” By leaving “room for dialogue” through exchanges within the form where staff can ask about budgets, visual styles, and preferences, we provide a personalized service experience identical to the physical store, even via the web.
- Synchronizing “Liveliness” and “Credibility” via Instagram Integration: To deliver the freshness of flowers that change expression with each season and the daily routine of the vibrant shop interior, we seamlessly integrated Instagram posts into the website. This does more than inject a dynamic rhythm into the website of a long-established house, which tends to become static; it continuously displays the latest visual evidence of the “warmth of the staff” and the “storefront overflowing with flowers” that are highly praised in word-of-mouth reviews. It functions as a hook to dispel anxiety for first-time users wondering “Is it expensive because it’s in Hiroo?” and to cultivate a sense of familiarity.
Sustainable Local Branding Guided by the Rationale Behind the Design
Without resting on its reputation as a long-established house in Hiroo, we executed thorough structuring from the perspective of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to cover audiences ranging from a new generation of general customers to professionals seeking floral materials for shooting or venue decorations. Alongside regional keywords like “Hiroo florist” and “wedding bouquet Hiroo,” we strategically positioned purpose-specific keywords such as “dressing room flowers Hiroo,” “lobby flowers Hiroo,” and “exhibition decoration Hiroo.” This guides users with specific intents toward conversion (inquiries) without confusion through a logical user flow design. The finalized website translates the “friendly and warm” brand identity that La Palette has cherished for years into a modern user interface (UI). By smoothly aligning with brick-and-mortar operations through the power of design, we constructed an experience that erases the boundary line between digital and analog. As a result, we aimed for the website to function continuously not as a mere information billboard, but as a “new entrance” connecting customers and the shop, becoming an asset that passes the brand’s value to the next generation.■ 本WEBサイトに掲載されている、会社名、商品名、サービス名、ブランド名、ロゴマーク、サービスマーク、スローガン、キャッチコピー等の著作権・商標権は、各権利所有者に帰属します。
